Dr. Theresa Marko, PT, DPT, MS, is the founder and owner of Marko Physical Therapy PLLC, a private practice in New York City specializing in orthopedics and adolescents. She is an adjunct professor at Touro University Manhattan and Tufts University Seattle and serves as an official Spokesperson for the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Media Corps. She has helped thousands of people overcome injuries, optimize their movement, and return to work and sports pain-free and better than ever.

Dr. Marko’s expertise has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News & World Report, HuffPost, PopSugar Fitness, Self, Cosmopolitan, and Business Insider. She sat on the editorial board of SpineUniverse as the first and only physical therapist on the board for three years. Dr. Marko is currently a member of the Medical Review Board for Verywell Health.
Dr. Marko graduated with a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from Simmons University in Boston in 1999 and went on to obtain her Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy from Des Moines University in Iowa. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Interdisciplinary Leadership from Creighton University. Dr. Marko obtained her board certification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). She also earned a specialty in Pediatrics, from birth to three years old, as a Certified Early Intervention Specialist (CEIS) from the Massachusetts Department of Health. Dr. Marko has the unique perspective of knowing how to help all people across the age spectrum. Dr. Marko is also a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Golf Fitness Professional, which uses the body-swing connection™ to help improve your posture and swing and extend the life of your golf game. She is also Select Functional Movement Assessment, Level 1 certified, a movement-based diagnostic system that systematically finds the cause of pain - not just the source - by logically breaking down dysfunctional movement patterns in the entire body. Dr. Marko is licensed to practice in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Florida and is an APTA-certified Diversity, Equity, and inclusion provider as well as a certified Telehealth provider.
She brings over 20 years of experience to her practice, which includes a specialized knowledge base reflective of her many post-graduate advanced training courses. Her deep fascination with the body’s mechanics spurs her to continually learn new treatment techniques as well as new schools of thought on movement.

She has been a member of The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) since 1996 and has become an integral part of their advocacy team, fighting for physical therapy legislation on behalf of her patients and profession. She is also a member of several sections of the APTA, such as Private Practice, Orthopaedic, Academy of Leadership & Innovation, Pelvic Health, Pediatrics, as well as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists.
Dr. Marko serves on the Private Practice Section’s Government Affairs Committee and the Finance Committee of the APTA Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy. She also served on APTA’s Public Policy & Advocacy Committee (2018-2021), an advisory group to the Board of Directors, as well as the practice affairs committee of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy (2019-2023). In her home state of New York, she is appointed the Federal Affairs Liaison since 2019, serves on its Public Policy Committee, and is the Chairperson of the Nominating Committee. She has been an elected delegate to APTA’s House of Delegates, the highest policy-making body of the association, since 2019. Dr. Marko has been a clinical site reviewer for the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency & Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE) since 2024.

She remains up to date with the current Evidence-Based Medicine by attending yearly conferences and reading the current research published in medical journals. She is also a volunteer for the New York City Medical Reserve Corp.
Dr. Marko's lifelong search for a greater understanding of the body, along with her compassion, caring, and empathy, makes her an exceptional caregiver who is admired and respected by many. ​Her personal interests include: traveling, all things Foodie, baseball, comedy, human rights, advocacy, and French Bulldogs.
